The upstream kernel now has the dm-raid driver, which works on top of
the existing (md) raid456 driver. However, it is still marked
EXPERIMENTAL and I have no intention of enabling a RAID driver in such a
state.

Given that dm-raid can be built as a module, it follows that all the
necessary symbols must now be exported, so you could, if you wish, build
it out-of-tree. However, I would strongly recommend not providing this
option to Debian users until the driver is known to be reliable.

Ben.
