Why is aufs a dirty hack?
Because the Linux VFS doesn't (yet) provide the generic operations that
a union filesystem needs. If you look at the aufs config options and
the code, you will see that it needs to handle various filesystems
specially, and it needs to work around various limitations of the VFS.
