Running the following command reliably causes devices to drop from the
array & generate the same error messages posted:
# while true; do smartctl -a /dev/sdc > /dev/null; done
After applying this patch, these problems have not reoccurred. Will
leave this running overnight & confirm if problem reoccurs.
