A crash in the kernel is no user application error.

VMware adds another variable to this problem. Please update to the
latest kernel from unstable and recheck if this is reproducible. Google
does not show further instances with this kernel.

I updated the kernel today and I can create snapshots without any problem. I'll keep an eye on it with our automated snapshot scripts in the next week.
