It is no longer possible (earlier releases of 2.6.26 allowed for this as it should) to have 2 (different) soundcards active. After booting alsaconf must be run to reconfigure a soundcard to enable and unmute it.
Tested with 2 different Soundblaster Cards & drivers besides the onboard ac97 soundcard.
