Package: linux-2.6.32 Severity: wishlist *** Please type your report below this line *** When i915 is installed with modeset=1 it is not possible to run svgalib. (System crashes but can be restored by starting X11) I strongly prefer to run in terminal mode with svgalib and therefore I use modeset=0 but then I have no X11. It would be nice to be able to use svgalib while modeset=1 and as I understand there are some kernel options for the framebuffer to allow that. It would be nice if the distributed kernel would have whatever is required enabled to allow svgalib in future debuian kernel releases. Either a kernel driver or userland can manage memory on the video card, but not both. > It would be nice if the distributed kernel would have whatever is > required enabled to allow svgalib in future debuian kernel releases. We will not make kernel changes to support svgalib. If you really need to run old applications written for svgalib then you could look into porting svgalib to run on top of a kernel framebuffer device. (svgalib is no longer developed, so you would probably have to do this yourself.) Ben. -- Ben Hutchings Once a job is fouled up, anything done to improve it makes it worse.Attachment: signature.asc
