Bug#592497: similiar problems
Hi,
we have similar problems with our Dell Poweredge servers 2950III, r710
(2.6.32-bpo.5-amd64).
The Poweredge 2950III were running fine with debian etch and kernel
2.6.18 - but after distupgrade to lenny and backported kernel the
problem appeared.
Our newer Poweredge r710 systems are used with a spanningtree
infrastructure in a Dell PowerConnect 6200 series setup.
If the r710 freezes -> then all other servers (which are connected to
the same switch) will lost theirs connection to the internet, because
the switch sets the rootinstance to the DMZ-switch (it should be the
next cisco router).
In this case:
eth0 is internet traffic and won't work.
eth3 is DMZ traffic and is still working after the crash.
Additionaly we are using other drivers as distributed by debian:

Configuration of the PowerConnect 6200 series switch:
switchports are configured with spanning-tree portfast and rootguard.
Typically the server is freezing and show's only the last kernelerrors
in the remote management card - some screenshots for examples:
