There is a very long thread on LKML regarding this issue. It follows on from the posting of http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/linux/kernel/1246966 as a candidate for a 2.6.32.x stable release. There seems to be no final solution at the moment but it seems like one is on the way and I expect it will make it into the stable series pretty soon too. In the meantime it is probably worth testing some of the patches posted in the thread recently and confirming whether or not they help for you.
