The system is a Debian "testing" distribution, which is updated very regularly through aptitude.
The USB webcam is a Samsung Pleomax PWC-2000. Days ago, when kernel 2.6.26-2-686 was being used, this webcam worked fine with module "gspca-modules-2.6.26-2-686" and was detected as PAC7311 by Kopete and Skype.
After updating kernel to 2.6.30-1-686, in which gspca modules were taken into the mainstream kernel, the webcam stopped functioning.
When the webcam is plugged in into a USB port, its led stays turned on (it should be off until I start the camera from an application), the modules "gspca_main" and "gspca_pac7311" are loaded (seen with lsmod), and both Kopete and Skype see the webcam, but they fail to use it (they hang even trying to test/diagnose it).
To avoid conflict, I uninstalled the module "gspca-modules-2.6.26-2-686" and reboot the system, but the same behaviour persists.
I have found only one report with a similar issue, bug report #542214. I tried to execute Skype, for instance, using the recommended workaround, but the issue is still present and the webcam led does not turn off after it is plugged in.
