There was an installed copy of coreutils, but version 6.10-6 which doesn't contain mktemp. The issue is partly because this is a mixed release box, with some stable, testing and unstable packages, but this is still an issue that should be dealt with (partially because it may cause weird upgrade issues for some users I suspect).
