can you verify integrity of initramfs
size is a good first indication
ls -lh /boot/initrd*
and then try to extract the initramfs, in some temp dir
mkdir /tmp/foo && cd /tmp/foo
gunzip -c /boot/initrd.img-2.6.XX-X-<flavour> | cpio -i -d
> % egrep -ri resume /etc/initramfs-tools
> /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume:RESUME=/dev/disk/by-label/swap

> % cat /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume
> RESUME=/dev/disk/by-label/swap

this loooks good.
