Package: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.32-8
Severity: important

Hi,

Since about a month or so, I can not bring my wireless network interface
up anymore. At first I thought it was a hardware issue, but that's not
the case; under "that other" OS, everything seems to work fine.

When I try to bring it up, the following ensues:

wouter@celtic:~$ sudo ip link set wlan0 up
RTNETLINK answers: Unknown error 132

Ben Hutchings told me on IRC that error 132 meant ERFKILL, i.e., that
the RF kill button would be engaged. But that is not the case; and
toggling it does not seem to change anything.

Unlikely; the processor in my laptop is a T5870, which (according to
ark.intel.com) does not even have hardware virtualization support. The
BIOS (which is some HP-specific junk that wants a mouse to be
configured) also doesn't have any option that might remotely be related.

It is rather peculiar that the kernel tries to look for the relevant
ACPI tables given the lack of hardware virtualization, but I guess I can
agree with you that it is not related to the iwlagn issue at hand in
this bug.

However, I had done the BIOS reflash before I saw this mail, and I'm
happy to report that it /did/ fix the issue. I'm not sure what changed,
why it broke, but BIOS corruption is not impossible.

Anyway, case closed as far as I'm concerned, so closing. Feel free to
reopen if you want to hunt it down a bit more, but I guess it's not
actually a kernel bug.
