Package: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.31-1
Severity: grave
Justification: causes non-serious data loss

A bit after 16:00, I left my laptop on, but when I came back 3 hours
later, the machine did not respond to the keyboard or the mouse, and
the screen remained blank. I had to switch it off.

This is the first time such a freeze occurs. But I usually use
Ethernet, while I'm currently using wifi. It's too early to say
whether I can reproduce the problem.

After rebooting, fsck corrected errors. I don't know what has been
lost exactly, but after restarting Firefox, the whole saved session
was lost!

I've looked at various log files, but unfortunately, I got nothing.
Here are the most recent messages (they are from /var/log/syslog)
before the reboot:

Nov 14 16:03:01 xvii /USR/SBIN/CRON[7600]: (root) CMD (home_net >/dev/null)

** Network interface configuration:
# This file describes the network interfaces available on your system
# and how to activate them. For more information, see interfaces(5).

# One should not use "auto eth0" because an Ethernet cable is not
# necessarily plugged in. Then one needs an "allow-hotplug eth0"
# line so that ifup and ifdown can work on eth0. But eth0 is not
# automatically brought up by "/etc/init.d/networking start"
# (Debian bug 550014); ifplugd is not a solution either because
# it doesn't work at boot time (bug 550019), but also it is run
# too late (bugs 204499, 407349 and 432612).
