If this additional memory can be swapped out then I don't think there's a
problem.  If the kernel or X server is locking this extra memory or other-
wise preventing it from being swapped out, then file a bug on whichever of
them is responsible.  Either way this has nothing to do with
firmware-nonfree.

You can explicitly disable DRI in xorg.conf.
