Bug#532908: Please fix this grave bug
Dear Friends,
We spent several hours trying to compile a fresh 2.6.30 kernel. Debian
stock kernels only provide the new firewire interface. So we compiled a
kernel with the old stack.
It took us several hours to understand why kernel initrd was missing.
At first I thought it was a question of static configuration of modules.
I did not look for a missing initrd, because the build scrit included
--initrd as usual. This has been the case for so many years. I don't
believe my eyes this could change. Please revert.
I wonder how your guys can think this is a "fixed" bug or a question of
documentation. I hope you are kidding.
Finally, I copied as proposed the following scripts:
cp /usr/share/kernel-package/examples/etc/kernel/postinst.d/initramfs /etc/kernel/postinst.d/initramfs-tools ; cp /usr/share/kernel-package/examples/etc/kernel/postrm.d/initramfs /etc/kernel/postrm.d/initramfs-tools
For Debian sake, please include these two files into initramfs-tools.
You will save the time of hundreds of people.
If you respect users, please do.
Kind regards,
Jean-Michel
