I have found a similar-looking bug report
<http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.linux.ide/36790> which has been fixed in
Linux 2.6.31.

Please test whether the CD drive works if you do this:

1. At the GRUB boot menu, press Escape to interrupt the boot process
2. Insert a CD
3. Select the menu entry for Debian

If so, then I think this is the same bug and we should be able to apply
the fix to Debian 'lenny'.
