The kernel only supports the video parameter for built-in framebuffer drivers, and the initramfs scripts try to emulate this for modules. As you can see, it doesn't work perfectly and this feature is about to be removed. You can set the module parameter explicitly in the modprobe configuration (options radeonfb mode_option=...).
