Netdev watchdog should unload and reload module for r8169.
When it hangs I just do:
sudo rmmod r8169 mii ; sudo modprobe r8169 ; sudo modprobe mii
and it works again, but it is a mess.
It happens on all linux 2.6 kernels I've tried, experimental ones too.
    

Does this still occur with 2.6.30?
