The non-free packages are not licensed to distribute or modify. So the debian is maintaining under non-free section of the repository. So the customer should download the non-free package from lenny is the only way to do.

It it already splited  and maintained in the debian repository.

Especially the Radeon drivers would be nice if they could be in main, so that they are present on the disks/images. Otherwise I would have to install the non-free package after upgrading to squeeze on my machines to get the same hardware support as in lenny.

Is it possible to split that package?
