Package: linux-image-2.6.17-1-686
Version: 2.6.17-2

I cannot get my system to come up with the 2.6.17 kernel. It starts
fine, but is unable to find drive hde, hdf, hdg, and hdh. These are all
drives connected to a second IDE controller, a Promise "PDC20268
(Ultra100 TX2)".

The 2.6.15 kernel also had this problem. 2.6.12 works fine.

The PCI scan seems to find it, but apparently the module for it does not
get loaded. I've been unable to figure out why, but I'm working on it.

I've checked the kernel configs and the only PDC202 difference I see is
that "CONFIG_PDC202XX_FORCE=y" was present in 2.6.12 but missing in
2.6.17. Comparing the source code of the two driver versions, it
appears that "FORCE=y" is the only way it operates.

Attached are the dmesg outputs of the 2.6.12 and 2.6.17 kernels. There are several differences, but the missing PDC20268 lines in the 2.6.17 output is the most notable.

lspci -v under 2.6.12 gives:

0000:02:0a.0 Unknown mass storage controller: Promise Technology, Inc. PDC20268 (Ultra100 TX2) (rev 02) (prog-if 85)
        Subsystem: Promise Technology, Inc. Ultra100TX2

Expansion ROM at feae0000 [disabled] [size=16K]
        Capabilities: <available only to root>

I can't run lspci under 2.6.17 because the system won't boot that far.

Let me know if there is any more information I can provide. I'll keep working on it, too.

                                          Brian
