2.6.26-15 kernels at least, compiled with gcc 3.4 or 4.3 -- I'm not sure which
As one who has been accustomed to compiling my own kernels for some years, I'm
sure you can imagine my consternation in trying to compile a new kernel for
my AMD-64 machines, only to find that they do not work at all.
Why not? I honestly dunno. The symptom is a remarkably persistent "Kernel
panic" message that says something to the following effect: "Not syncing;
unable to load kernel from root directory (3,1)."
This seems a far cry from the days when I could simply breeze through a MAKE
MENUCONFIG session and choose my choices and compile the thing and have it
work. That is what I really need it to do again!
HELP!!!!
Thanks very much. :)
