The command ldd /sbin/tune2fs /usr/bin/awk | sort -u | awk '{print $3}'
within the script /usr/share/initrd-tools/scripts/e2fsprogs provides the
following output:

/lib/libblkid.so.1
/lib/tls/libc.so.6
/lib/tls/libc.so.6
/lib/libcom_err.so.2
/lib/tls/libdl.so.2
/lib/libe2p.so.2
/lib/libext2fs.so.2
/lib/tls/libm.so.6
/lib/libuuid.so.1
(0xffffe000)

The script expects paths and file names to copy but no hex number and thus
exits with error level 1 and the message it cannot stat '(0xffffe000)'.

Since this problem makes kernel installations fail, it might lead to
unbootable machines.

The initrd-tools package has been removed from Debian testing, unstable and
experimental, so I am now closing the bugs that were still opened
against it.

For more information about this package's removal, read

this package was removed, and suggestions of possible replacements.
