Bug#468839: linux-source-2.6.24: A make-kpkg build of Linux 2.6.24 generates an unusable headers package (i.e. : not suitable for m-a).

Package: linux-source-2.6.24
Version: 2.6.24-4
Severity: important

Hello, the hurd.

Here again!

But this time I do have precise facts and I have PARTLY troubleshooted the problem myself.

I've noticed that a make-kpkg build of Linux 2.6.24 generates an unusable headers package (i.e. : not suitable for module-assistant).
This surprising behavior did not happen with Linux 2.6.22 , using the same procedure to generate the kernel image, headers and external modules.

With more details, here are the 2 facts relevant to any further external module build with module-assistant (only for 2.6.24):
  1) Really, installing the generated headers package is not enough.
  2) It shows necessary to keep the kernel build directory in-place too.

I cannot stress less: This surprising behavior did not happen with Linux 2.6.22 ...

Hope this report will prove useful.

I'm looking forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,
Valentin QUEQUET
