Severity: important

From time to time the computer (a Samsung R60+ laptop bought one month
ago) gets completely frozen until I press any key or the touchpad, then
resume normal operation. Eventually I'll get some "lost syncronization"
errors on dmesg about the touchpad, but I'm not quite sure if this is
the cause or a consequence.

I've read a lot of people having trouble about the psmouse's lost sync
error, but all the solutions proposed I've found (passing proto=bare,
imps or exps to the psmouse module or booting with i8042.nomux, for
instance) didn't work for me. Furthermore, this behavior also happen if
I don't run the X server at all, so I'd discard any X driver issue.

This problem is quite annoying because it means that I can't leave the
computer unattended working on something because it'll freeze until I
came back. Also the synchronization errors on the touchpad make X
sessions quite unusable after the first or second freeze: the cursor
behave erraticly and almost impossible to control.

As this problem disrupt the normal use, I'm classyfing this issue as
"important".

I've tried 2.6.26 but with the same results. I changed back to 2.6.25 due to some module issues: I'm not in the mood for recompiling them for a kernel that gives me the same problems which, in fact, also means that those self-compiled modules, particularly ATI's fglrx and MadWifi's ath_pci, had nothing to do with the issue.

On the other hand, with 2.6.24 I had several "CPU#0 stuck for 116s!" errors. I hadn't tried previous kernels than that (I'm on Lenny).
