I can change the values in /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness but they have no impact on the brightness. Charles, setting "xrandr --output LVDS --set BACKLIGHT_CONTROL native" should make at least xbacklight work, but for HAL which relies on the ACPI interface, this is up to the kernel.
