Package: linux-image-2.6.24-1-i686
Version: 2.6.24-6

Version 2.6.24-6 was installed when updating packages
on 2008-04-25. Previously ntp had been working
correctly. After installing version 2.6.24-6, the ntp
poll interval will increase normally from 6 to 7 and
then after a time at 7, it returns to 6 rather than
increasing to 8.

Additional information:

I know the problem also exists in the current ubuntu
and kubuntu releases since this particular issue was
why I abandoned using them.

The affected machine is a GX110 667MHz processor 320
MB RAM.

I believe the clocksource is currently set to tsc;
however, another feature of the recent kernel change
is that the command "cat
/sys/devices/system/clocksource/clocksource0/current_clocksource'
fails with a message "permission denied" even as root.
 The command previously worked.

x86 merge cause some instabilities in that area,
fixed up for 2.6.25. unstable image installs just fine in testing.
