Bug#482463: Please add ipw3945 to kernel 2.6.24 (iwl3945 very instable)

Package: linux-image-2.6-amd64
Version: 2.6.24+13

On my Thinkpad T60p with etch, I have to use a more recent
kernel, due to a GSM internet card that does not work well
with 2.6.18.

For this 2.6.24 kernel from lenny, I tried for three days to
set up iwl3945, then gave up and compiled iwp3945.

Issues are:
  - Scanning:
erratic scanning and access point association
often iwlist wlan0 scan will not list the
    access point (distance 1 m);
of four access points apparently in my neighbourhood,
it will randomly display or omit them.
  - Association:
Association with wpa_supplicant does not work well.
May be due to the same reasons, but sometimes does
not work even after scanning succeeded.
  - Module apparently not working well after hibernate-to-ram
    and wake-up.
  - LED on thinkpad not working.

I compiled the ipw3945 version 1.2.2 driver with James Colannino's
patch for 2.6.24: http://james.colannino.org/downloads.html
and it worked reasonably well.

Since I have seen many bug reports about iwl3945, Debian should
keep ipw3945 around for some more time.
