Package: linux-image-2.6.16-2-k7
Version: 2.6.16-17
Severity: normal

There is a new feature in 2.6.16 which stops powering the USB devices plugged on unpowered hubs if they require too much power.

This wasn't present in 2.6.15 and now renders device unrecognised when they used to work.

The messages of the kernel are not really clear on that, not mentioning why the device is not activated :
Jul 27 17:16:40 shuttle kernel: usb 2-2.3: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 6
Jul 27 17:16:41 shuttle kernel: usb 2-2.3: not running at top speed; connect to a high speed hub
Jul 27 17:16:41 shuttle kernel: usb 2-2.3: no configuration chosen from 1 choice

This leads to a bug from a user's perspective (hence the bug and not whichlist IMHO).

However, there's a patch available to notify the device de-activation.

Here are more details from a Gentoo ticket : https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=132721

Hope the same patch can be applied in Debian's kernel.

Best regards.
