When you install Debian using the "unofficial" image, it puts the
proprietary Intel microcode into /lib/firmware on your hard drive. So
when you upgrade Debian, the microcode is still there. The new kernel
(2.6.24) which I suggested has the GPL Ethernet driver and since the
microcode is on your hard drive, everything will work.

No, since you're only installing one indiviual package from unstable
that has no dependencies on anything else that matters. It won't
cause any problems.

You can use the upslug2 program in case you have another Linux
machine. upslug2 -U backup Otherwise there's a program available for
