the trouble you point too lies in symlinking your hole etc :P
any cp -a invokation will break, you have to switch those to
cp -Lpr, there is one invocation in mkinitramfs itself and the
other is in the udev hook.
i find this an highly questionable usage and will wait for input
from others before deciding on it.
