Package: udev
Version: 0.084-3
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable
When I try to upgrade my system replacing hotplug by udev the mouse does
not seem to be recognized. This happens with both the 2.6.12 and the
2.6.15 kernels. I am running an amd64 system on the same machine
(separate boot) and there is no problem with udev so this is not
hardware related. The psmouse module seems to be installed and manually
(re)installing it with modprobe does not help. Syslog gives me these
messages:
Syslog of 2.6.15 Etch 2.6.15-1-686 udev version: 0.084-3
Feb 12 14:25:22 localhost kernel: mice: PS/2 mouse device common for all
mice
NOTE: using the 2.6.12-1-686 gives the same result.
On the amd64 system I get this:
Syslog of amd64 Sid 2.6.15-1-amd64-k8 udev version: 0.084-3
Feb 13 10:31:24 Attila kernel: mice: PS/2 mouse device common for all
mice
...
Feb 13 10:31:24 Attila kernel: input: Logitech USB-PS/2 Optical Mouse as
/class/input/input1
Feb 13 10:31:24 Attila kernel: input: USB HID v1.10 Mouse [Logitech
USB-PS/2 Optical Mouse] on usb-0000:00:10.0-2
You can see that amd64 finds the Logitech USB-PS/2 mouse but the 32bit
system, whether 2.6.12 or 2.6.15 does not.
I have no problems with hotplug; only when I try to switch to udev
I get messages during bootup from udev:
Starting the hotplug events dispatches...
Synthesizing the intial hotplug events...mice:
PS/2 mouse device for all mice
Waiting for /dev to be fully populated...done
And that's it. It never finds my Logitech mouse.
I'm happy to send you any further info you may require and yes, I do
purge the hotplug package.
Any help much appreciated. This is driving me crazy.
