hmm ok fall into that trap, but even as root i can't reproduce:
# /tmp/foo
old frequency: -3424768
new frequency: 128336
# /tmp/foo
old frequency: 128336
new frequency: 128336

there will be soon trunk images of 2.6.23-rc2
