Bug#405383: Laptop headphone audio stopped working with 2.6.18-8

Did you check configuration of alsamixer maybe that's the problem
I had the similar problem in the past and i set everything by hand and it is 
working  now. I didn't have problem with this kernel, but like I said for me 
problem was alsamixer.
