Package:  linux-image-2.6.22-3-686 (2.6.22-6)

Description: I installed base system of etch (stable) on a virtual machine within vmware (the free version) with the intention to do a dist-upgrade to lenny.  (Etch works fine, I have multiple systems -desktop etc) running on "etch" virtual machines.).

From the command prompt of the etch base system I invoked aptitude and updated the system because there were security patches showing up. I subsequently modified the /etc/apt/sources.list file to have all the entries point to "lenny."

From the command prompt I executed the following commands

->aptitude update
->aptitude dist-upgrade

when the upgrade finished I re-booted and noted that I now had two different kernel entires in the grub menu,

these were the etch kernel 2.6.15 and the lenny kernel 2.6.22

I booted with the lenny kernel and after part of the boot the system hung at the following line

->waiting for root file system...

eventually the system went into an initramfs shell and that was that...I did not know what to do there:-)

When I boot with the 2.6.15 kernel, the boot completed, I logged into root and in fact I went ahead and installed the rest of the Lenny system (desktop..etc).

let me know if there is any other info that I can provide
