Yes, it did. Unbootable is one of the options listed in reportbug
for "breaks the whole system".

Then why is yaird packaged?
I was writing back to note that, violating the rule of updating a
running kernel that it should be rebooted ASAP, I was able to
uninstall yaird and use initramfs-tools instead, and it indeed did
work to create the initrd.img file, as you intimate that it might by
suggesting that there might be some other unnamed package to do what
yaird does (or rather, until today, "did").
My complements to the dselect developers who give a list of
alternatives when uninstalling a package, for other package(s) which
provide that needed functionality.
I was going to ask that the ticket 434597 be reassigned to yaird. But
sadly, it has already been closed.
