this report is highly confusing.
mkinitrd has not aboves message, initramfs-tools displays that if
the specified root on bootarg is wrong.
 

to recreate latest image:
update-initramfs -u -t

use the rootdelay=9 bootparam and give feedback if you land in
rescue console on which driver is loaded cat /proc/modules
and which devices exists ls /dev
