Bug#319755: Not necessarily initrd problem!
I have had this for a while and do not use an initrd. I can rmmod genrtc and
modprobe rtc afterwards. However, certain thing have already loaded which
depend upon the rtc.ko and produce errors with genrtc.ko loaded.
I had a blacklist entry which had been successful in surpressing genrtc. I
would get an "error message" on bootup "Not load blacklisted module genrtc"
and then rtc would load correctly.
However, this workaround's file has been lost and I do not remember where I
had it. It was relating hotplug watchdogs though it is more relevant to alsa.
