The jmicron driver has been included in the latest 2.6.18 kernel that is used in current _daily built_ installer images [1]. This may fix the problem you had with using the CD-ROM drive in the installer. It would be great if you could test the new installer to see if your system installs now. If you don't want to, you don't need to overwrite your existing installation. Just run the installation to the start of partitioning.
