If you don't want to upgrade this machine for the test, you could try
booting a daily build of d-i. It'll be running a 2.6.17 kernel which
isn't the latest, but would give us a good data point anyhow.

Once the sym driver is loaded during the discovery portion, you can
drop to a shell and run the 'dmesg' command to see if you receive the
same errors.
