Bug#402707: rtorrent hash check fails on x86 ext3

I am having this problem too on an x86 machine with ext3 filesystem.
rtorrent stops downloading and says:

Hash check on download completion found bad chunks, consider using "safe_sync"

This is the case whether safe_sync is used or not. Download resumes if I start the torrent again manually. This could happen multiple times, but once the download is complete hash check succeeds.

I am running a debian kernel 2.6.18-3-686, debian testing (etch).

Debian Release: 4.0
  APT prefers testing
APT policy: (900, 'testing'), (500, 'unstable')
Architecture: i386 (i686)
Shell:  /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash
Kernel: Linux 2.6.18-3-686
Locale: LANG=en_CA.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_CA.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8)

Versions of packages rtorrent depends on:
ii  libc6    2.3.6.ds1-8                     GNU C Library: Shared libraries
ii  libcomer 1.39+1.40-WIP-2006.11.14+dfsg-1 common error description library
