i have zero idea if that behaviour changed lately,
reassigning to the lilo guys that they take a look.
also note that ide-scsi is deprecated for 2.6.

yes grub is much more comfortable.
lilo is only needed on boxes with bad bios, there lilo has better
workarounds.
