378344 is void on the initramfs-tools side.
it's about having an documentation for moving root from
an disc device to an lvm2 volume.
that is definetly not initramfs-tools business.

great you try to hi-jack a random non related bug.
aboves is pretty wrong and a dup of #378332
you need to pass a real lvm2 device instead of the stupid symlink
and yes d-i gets that right. you need to pass root=/dev/mapper/vg-lv

no there is no ROOT=probe.
ROOT is documented in mkinitramfs.8
