I take it no one here has evaluated the suspend2 patch in a while, it
hasn't had any UI or splash stuff in it for a long time now. And the rest
of the patch has been cleaned up as well as Nigel is pushing for inclusion
to replace swsusp. And The UI is entirely in userspace now with the kernel
communicating status to it via netlink. And the hibernate script that
was originally written for it can use swsusp, uswsusp or suspend2 so the
automatic unloading of problematic drivers isn't tied to suspend2 in any way.

But I'm not pushing for it's inclusion since I'm not qualified to evaluate
the patch myself and I'm sure it's too late to make it into etch, but it
would make my life a bit easier since I use a suspend2 patched kernel on
my notebook.
