I am using Debian 3.1r0a Sarge and I connect to Internet with a serial
modem plugged to the phone line which ends into terminal "Ericsson
F251m".

When i connect the Linux box to the modem:

1) navigation is much slower than from the Windows box with same
hardware and configuration. but downloading with wget or similar ir
equally fast.

2) I can not connect to my msn account not with Gaim not with aMSN

the avobe problems dissapear if I connect the Linux box to a Windows
box with DHCP.

so it is strange.
maybe a bug in PPP?

hey Rodrigo,
I'm assuming by "navigation" you mean "using a graphical web
browser"? If so, this does not sound like a kernel problem; most
likely a problem with your browser or network configuration.

This may also be your network config, or a bug in your IM client - its
hard to say. Maybe you are using a different DNS server in your two
tests?

If wget isn't affected it is unlikely a bug with pppd or the kernel.

This bug needs more clarification before it can properly be reassigned
or resolved, and is likely one or more configuration issues.

I suggest sending an e-mail to the debian-user list (or one of the
lists for your language) to look for some general assistance to help
narrow down your problem. I will close this bug for now, but if the
user list is able to help you narrow down the issue(s), and there is
more evidence that this is a kernel problem, please file a new bug or
reopen this one.

Sorry I can't be more helpful :(

P.S.: The kernel you are running has many unfixed security
vulnerabilities - I strongly suggest you add security.debian.org to
your sources.list and apt-get install the latest kernel-image-2.6-686
package.
