Bug#372951: kernel-image-2.6.8-12-amd64-k8-smp: broken /proc/net/dev, tx/rx rates not working

Bug was discovered by use of vnstat.  This may or may not be a kernel bug, but the author of vnstat has indicated it is lower-level than his application.   Please see the following links for information that was posted at the vnstat support forums:
