Bug#369303: [powerpc] On oldworld macintosh need fbcon compiled in
Package: linux-image-2.6.16-2-powerpc
Version: 2.6.16-14
Severity: important
quik writes to whatever input-device and output-device are
configured in open firmware. Unfortunately for many old world macs
(including mine), this defaults to the ttya (/dev/ttyS0) which means
all the user sees is a blank screen, for the timeout and loading period
of quik
The kernel also defaults to the open firmware i/o as the console,
which means that until the system is completely loaded and a login:
prompt appears, all that you see is the penguin logo (assuming no
errors occur during the boot process; if there are errors the machine
will be effectively hung as it waits for input in the serial port).

And that's my crabbing done for the day. Got it out of the way early,
now I have the rest of the afternoon to sniff fragrant tea-roses or
strangle cute bunnies or something. -- Michael Devore
