Bug#360893: udev takes too long to create /dev/hda... and system drops to a shell

could you try out linux-image-2.6-$flavour from unstable
if that works for you.

it hopes the root device to come up.

hmm did you check from the shell if udevd is running with ps aux?
try to regnerate your initramfs with latest:
update-initramfs -u
