Same problem for me. I rebooted to my existing 2.6.15-8 (never trying2.6.16-3) and I had no problems. I removed 2.6.16-3 completely andtried re-installing it, but got the same problem in line 55 of/usr/sbin/mkinitramfs-kpkg.
