Bug#358913: linux-image-2.6.15-1-686: USB flash stick created on Macintosh doesn't work

Package: linux-image-2.6.15-1-686
Version: 2.6.15-8
Severity: normal

When I plug in a flash stick that my roommate has filled with stuff
using his Macintosh computer, it doesn't work. Windows reads the
stick. Here's what happens when I put in the stick:

Mar 20 21:01:17 localhost vmunix: usb 4-5: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 3

Here's what happens when I try to mount /dev/sda1:

[moise@mole ~]$ sudo mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/disk
mount: you must specify the filesystem type
[moise@mole ~]$ sudo mount -t vfat /dev/sda1 /mnt/disk
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sda1,
       missing codepage or other error
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
       dmesg | tail or so

There is a bit of interesting information in syslog:

Mar 20 21:18:22 localhost vmunix: FAT: invalid media value (0xb9)
Mar 20 21:18:22 localhost vmunix: VFS: Can't find a valid FAT filesystem on dev sda.

I can't imagine that the filesystem is anything but vfat. NTFS
doesn't work either, nor does using /dev/sda instead of /dev/sda1.
I've posted the first eight megabytes of /dev/sda (which is readable,
as is /dev/sda1) at
http://qix.demiurgestudios.com/~moise/broken-flash-stick.data .
I am sorry if this turns out to be hardware trouble or something I'm
doing wrong.
