Bug#296623: kernel-image-2.6.8-amd64: 2.6.8 kernel images panic on quad Opteron box

I've tried that, and I have the same problem as I do with
2.6.8-10-amd64-k8-smp :(

I had problems installing this kernel-image package, see the attached
text.

Yep. I've looked at the available BIOS updates, and I need to get in
touch with our supplier and see exactly which CPU revision we have,
since I'm loath to pull off the heatsink and take a look.

I'll do that if the BIOS update isn't helpful.
